Independent Physiotherapists Consulting at Adelaide Paediatrics

Paediatric physiotherapists have expertise in anatomy and physiology, as well as an expert understanding of child development; they utilise this to assess and treat children with a variety of health conditions. Adelaide Paediatrics is pleased to offer physiotherapy for children through an excellent team of independent physiotherapists who work closely together to achieve the best possible outcomes for their clients.

Among other things, physiotherapy for children deals with gross motor skills and musculoskeletal problems in babies and toddlers. Toddlers should be walking by approximately 18 months of age. If your toddler is getting close to 18 months of age and not yet walking, it may be useful to arrange an assessment. You may also consider seeing a paediatric physiotherapist if you are concerned about the way your child moves, walks or runs.

A doctor’s referral is not required to see a physiotherapist.

Having an avid love for sport and activity I have always wanted to be a physiotherapist to help with sports rehabilitation and strength and conditioning. However, as I went through my studies, I was exposed to various roles involving people of all ages with a disability, particularly children.

Many children I would see would hate playing sport at school, or would get frustrated with carers and therapists because very rarely would anyone try to understand what they were trying to communicate or why they were behaving in a certain way.

After building rapport with various kids I started to understand that most of them hated sport because no one had picked up that they can’t throw a ball or run properly or take the time to try and help them with these activities!

It was these experiences with various families which made me want to be able to use my skill set as a paediatric physiotherapist, to help all kids of various skillsets be able to be active in a safe and fun environment.

I believe one of the key things we can do as therapists is to use children’s strengths and interests to help them achieve their goals and I strive to try and make a difference in their lives as much as I can.
