Charmaine is an Adelaide local who completed her medical degree at the University of Adelaide in 2012 and underwent her paediatric basic training through the Women's and Children's Health Network. An unexpected interest in Gastroenterology and a love of travel took her overseas in 2018, where she worked for two years at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London, where she specialised in the area of neurogastroenterology and motility (disorders involving movement of the gut). She returned to Australian shores in 2020 and embarked on further training at the Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, learning skills in liver disease and transplantation management, followed by a short stint in Queensland Children's Hospital as the inaugural gastroenterology motility fellow.
Charmaine returned to Adelaide in 2022 to become a consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at Women's and Children's Hospital, where she continues to hold a public appointment. She manages a wide range of gastroenterology disorders from reflux and constipation to inflammatory bowel diseases, intestinal failure and complex liver disorders.
